The Old School Lodge Activity Weekend

8th - 9th October 2004

The section organised an activity weekend at West Wirral and Wallasey Districts activity centre at Deinilen, Snowdonia. 9 children with a variety of needs each working with an explorer "buddy" joined the section on this fantastic weekend.

Friday 8th October

An eventful journey from the Wirral to the centre, using the services of Wirral Community Transport. Due to a major incident on the A55 just outside of Flint we decided to take a detour and drive cross country, sadly delaying our arrival at Deinilen. Once we arrived we organised our bedding and got to know each other before bedtime.

Saturday 9th October

We all spent the morning making puppets and practicing for our own puppet show spending time before our coach came to pick us up to take us to Llanberis and Llyn Padarn. After a visit to the slate museum and a picnic lunch we made our way to the Boulder Adventures boat house to start our water activities afternoon.

With an afternoon of Kayaking, Canoeing and raft building a good time was had by all. The staff at Boulder Adventures provided an excellent professional service and gave everybody the opportunity to learn a new skill on the water. We recommend Boulder Adventures for any youth group who is using the area.

Our coach once again picked us up allowing us to head back to the centre for our dinner, and after last minute rehearsals our amazing puppet show entertained all.

Sunday 10th October

After a hearty breakfast we packed our bags and then headed on a walk to explore the area of the centre, heading back for a light lunch and the onwards to home all exhausted but all fully enjoying the weekend and looking forward to the next event.
